Day 2 Recap

STOCKTON, California – BYU men’s golf took fourth place behind senior Cole Ogden’s fourth-place finish at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Saturday.

“Cole came in and had a pretty good tournament,” BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. “For him to finish fourth the way he hit the ball today, kudos to him. Now that it’s the offseason, the guys have to go to work. I think we’re capable, but we’re going to have to figure some stuff out in the next few months.”

The Cougars finished their last fall tournament in fourth place, shooting four-over-par as a team. Washington State took first place (-11) while West Coast Conference members Pacific and Santa Clara took third (E) and 10th (+17) respectively.

Ogden shot four-under-par and tied for fourth place with a season-low total of 209.

“I’ll definitely give credit to my short game,” Ogden said. “I hit the ball poorly, but I chipped and putted very well. Overall, it was a good week. As a team we definitely have to kick it in gear for the spring.”

Senior Joe Parkinson improved in the final round, shooting par and finishing in a tie for 14th place. Freshman Austin Banz shot three-over-par and tied for 23rd.

Senior Jordan Rodgers took 33rd place, shooting five-over-par. Shooting 15-over-par, junior Tommy Higham ended the tournament in 55th place.

BYU’s spring season will start on Jan. 26-27 at the Arizona Intercollegiate.
