Lihue, Hawai’i — Freshman Austen Christiansen and sophomore Patrick Fishburn tied for 36th place individually as BYU men’s golf finished 13th at the John Burns Intercollegiate, Friday.
“We had a decent round yesterday, but today we shot seven-over-par on a day where the wind slowed down considerably," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "Fishburn and Christiansen played the best for us, and it was good to see Austen (Christiansen) shoot a couple of good scores. Overall as a team, we still have a lot of work to do.”
Christiansen finished the event at four-over-par through 54 holes of play. The freshman, who shot even par in today’s round, finished the tournament tied for 36th place with Fishburn. Christiansen birdied four holes in the third round. Today, Fishburn shot even par on the front nine and shot one-over-par on the back nine.
Zach Pritchard shot three-over-par on the day, birdying three holes in today’s round. He ended the event tied for 69th place. Spencer Dunaway tied with Pritchard for 69th, as he also shot a 75 (+3) in today’s 18 holes. Dunaway also birdied three holes today, the sixth, eighth and 10th holes.
CJ Lee shot seven-over-par through 18 holes, Friday. The sophomore finished the tournament tied for 76th place.
As a team, the Cougars finished the event in 13th place. BYU shot a total team score of 295 today. No. 8 Texas took first in the tournament, shooting 284 in today’s round of 18.
BYU will continue its spring season competing in the Pepperdine Invitational Feb. 29- Mar. 1.
