Hamson wins second WCC Player of the Week award
PROVO, Utah—Junior opposite hitter Jennifer Hamson received her second West Coast Conference Player of the Week award this season for her performance in the BYU Nike Invitational.
Hamson once again led the No. 21 BYU women’s volleyball team to three victories over the weekend with her 40 kills. (15 kills and 11 digs vs. Portland State). Against in-state rival Utah, Hamson recorded 16 kills on .625 hitting. She had her second double-double of the season against Portland State with 15 kills and 11 digs and recorded 11 blocks over the weekend, tallying six block assists vs. Bowling Green to tie her season high.
Hamson was named MVP of the BYU Nike Invitational, her third MVP honor in as many weeks. Hamson leads the team with 138 kills on the season at 4.45 kills per set.
With the three weekend wins, Hamson helped her team to its third tournament title this season, pushing the Cougars to a 9-0 season record for their best start since 2005. With each of the weekend's three matches won in three sets, the Cougars have now had six sweeps this season.
Up next for the Cougars is their final scheduled tournament of the year. They play against New Hampshire Friday at 5 p.m. EDT in the George Washington Invitational in Washington, D.C. Saturday they face Princeton at noon EDT and host George Washington at 7 p.m. EDT.
