Young added to 2012 women's volleyball roster
PROVO, Utah—BYU women’s volleyball head coach Shawn Olmstead announced the team will welcome Whitney Young to the roster for the 2012 season.
Young—a 6-foot Roberts, Idaho, native—will play at the outside hitter and middle blocker positions.
“We are very excited to welcome Whitney to our team," Olmstead said. "She is an outstanding athlete with a strong work ethic that will help her continue her improvement in volleyball. We have had some great volleyball players from Idaho and it’s exciting to welcome another one. Whitney’s eagerness to learn and being surrounded by our team will assist her development dramatically.”
Young joins a team that went 21-9 last season in its first season in West Coast Conference competition. The team lost three seniors from last season and looks forward to contributions from five newcomers, including Young.
Young becomes a member of a young Cougar outside hitter squad that was led by graduated senior and starting outside hitter Christie Carpenter in 2011. At middle blocker, Young will train with senior Nicole Warner and junior Kathryn LeCheminant, who combined for 287 blocks in the past season, putting BYU at the top for blocks per game in the WCC.
