PROVO, Utah—Sophomore Jennifer Hamson earned AVCA Division I All-Pacific Region accolades Tuesday for leading the BYU women’s volleyball team to a winning season in 2011.

“This is an exciting reward for Jen and our program,” BYU head coach Shawn Olmstead said. “It’s great to be acknowledged for her work and a successful season. Jen was an important part of that success.”

Hamson, a product of Lindon, Utah, recorded 422 total kills for the Cougars, averaging 3.94 per set. Hamson ranked No. 22 in the nation for points per set with 4.88. On defense, Hamson ranked second on the team in digs with 2.38 per set, 255 total, and posted 1.08 blocks per set, 116 total. Hamson also led the team in service aces with 39 total.

This season, Hamson earned West Coast Conference Player of the Week and WCC Player of the Month. The WCC named Hamson to the all-conference first team following her performance in league play.

She was also named to all-tournament teams for the BYU Nike Invitational, the Utah Invitational and the Varney’s Invitational, garnering tournament MVP at the Varney’s Invitational.

Hamson’s success extends to the classroom, where she earned academic all-conference accolades for a 3.63 cumulative GPA.

Hamson, also a member of the women’s basketball team, will have a busy off-season as basketball conference play begins Dec. 31.
