Hamson Garners WCC Weekly Honors
PROVO, Utah (Sept. 12, 2011)—Opposite hitter Jennifer Hamson was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week for a stellar performance in the weekend’s Utah Invitational.
Hamson led BYU to the Utah Invitational title and a win against rival Utah in the Deseret First Duel. Totaling 51 kills and 42 digs in four matches, Hamson recorded two double-doubles against BYU-Hawaii (15 kills, 10 digs) and Utah (15 kills, 11 digs) and broke a career record for service aces in a match with five against BYU-Hawaii. Hamson also had a season-high hitting percentage with .591 against Utah. She was named to the All-Utah Invitational team.
The 6-foot-6 sophomore leads the Cougars with 119 kills hitting .338. Hamson averages 2.42 digs and .92 blocks per set.
The Cougars take on Utah State in Logan, Utah, Tuesday at 7 p.m. before heading to California to take on Cal State Fullerton Friday at 7 p.m. and Cal State Northridge Saturday at 1 p.m.
