Cougars Hit the Road to Finish Conference Play

PROVO -- With five-straight sweeps, the BYU women’s volleyball team (8-12, 3-3 MWC) will travel to New Mexico (11-8, 3-3 MWC) Thursday at 7 p.m. and TCU (12-8, 3-3 MWC) Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.

“We have been maturing greatly as a team,” BYU head coach Shay Goulding said. “With these wins we will push forward through the rest of the season.”

All three teams have identical conference records with three wins and three losses going into the last two matches of the first half of Mountain West Conference play. The Cougars have fallen to Utah, Colorado State and Wyoming; New Mexico has fallen to SDSU, CSU and TCU; and TCU has fallen to SDSU, CSU and Wyoming.

Up first for the Cougars will be New Mexico in Albuquerque. BYU leads the all-time series 62-12 with the last meeting being a 3-0 loss on Nov. 7, 2009 at New Mexico. The Lobos are led by Taylor Hadfield on the attack with 204 kills at 3.09 kills per set. Lobo senior Lisa Meeter earned her 1,000th career kill and 1,000th career dig on Oct. 14 at Wyoming, becoming the 33rd player to reach the 1,000 kills mark and 17th in digs in MWC history.

Finishing out the week will be TCU Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. The Cougars lead the all-time series 12-3, the last meeting a 3-0 loss in Fort Worth. The Horned Frogs are led by Irene Hester on the attack with 254 kills, averaging 3.63 per set.

After this week the Cougars will travel to the University of Utah to begin the second half of MWC play on Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. MT.
