No. 6 Hawai'i Earns Cougars' First Sweep of 2010

HONOLULU, Hawai’i (Sept. 17, 2010) – In front of almost 6,000 fans, the BYU women’s volleyball team (3-8) was swept 3-0 by No. 6 Hawai’i (9-1) in a late-night matchup (23-25, 11-25, 10-25).

The Rainbow Wahine had two players in double-digit kills, and one player in double-digit digs while tallying seven team blocks.

True freshman Jennifer Hamson led the Cougars with eight kills on the night while sophomore Nicole Warner had five. Senior setter Kiana Rogers added 17 assists while libero Kendalyn Hartsock earned 10 digs.

BYU came out strong in set one, tallying four-straight points to knot the score at five early on. With back-and-forth play, the Cougars just fell short, falling 25-23 in set one. Hamson led the Cougars on the attack with four kills and one service ace, followed by Carpenter’s three kills. Rogers tallied 10-of-11 assists while Hartsock chalked up four digs.

The next two sets were fatal to the Cougars, barely being able to come out with a point, the squad fell 25-11, 25-10 in straight sets.

BYU will again take on No. 6 Hawai’i Saturday night at 7 p.m. HT at the Stan Sheriff Center before coming home to the mainland to start Mountain West Conference play.
