PROVO -- To kickoff the 2010 women’s volleyball season, the BYU spikers will hold the annual Blue and White match Tuesday at the Smith Fieldhouse. The event is free to the public and begins at 6:30 p.m. with “Volleyball 101” and the match at 7 p.m.

“The Blue & White match is a great way for us to showcase what we have worked hard on in preseason and it is a nice way to change gears from practice to competition,” said BYU head coach Shay Goulding. “It is important to create a game-like atmosphere to test ourselves and see where we may still need to make some adjustments before we head off to our first tournament. By opening the event up to the public we hope to excite fans and give them a chance not only to meet their team, but also to get a glimpse of the action they will see this season.”

“Volleyball 101” will be a question and answer session with coach Goulding where anyone can ask questions about rules or 2010 team specifics.

In addition to “Volleyball 101” and the match itself, season ticket holders and their guests will have pizza and mingle with the athletes following the match. Those interested in purchasing season tickets will be able to sign up at the match as well.

Come see the 2010 women’s volleyball team this Tuesday as it gets ready for the home opener Sept. 3 against No. 2 Nebraska at 7 p.m. as part of the BYU Nike Invitational.

The Cougars will open the season later in the week as they travel to the State Farm Illini Tournament in Champagne, Ill. to take on Illinois, Middle Tennessee and South Carolina.
