Four Women's Volleyball Players Named MWC Scholar-Athletes

PROVO -- The Mountain West Conference announced its 2009-10 Scholar-Athlete Award recipients Thursday with a total of 548 student-athletes honored, including four BYU women’s volleyball players.

The MWC Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.

Senior Marisa Boaz tallied a 3.80 in Dietetics, freshman Lauren Sagers earned a 3.72 in Exercise Science, freshman Nicole Warner maintained a 3.79 in Exercise Science and senior Melissa Lake Wright earned a 3.77 in Fitness and Wellness Management.

The University of New Mexico tallied the most scholar-athlete awards in the conference for women’s volleyball with seven; Colorado State and Utah followed with five; BYU with four; Air Force, SDSU, TCU and Wyoming with three; and UNLV with two honorees.
