PROVO -- In the first week of Mountain West Conference play, senior rightside hitter Kayla Walker was named MWC Player of the Week for the first time in her career for her stellar performance against SDSU and Air Force.

"It's definitely an honor to be named conference Player of the Week," said Walker. "But I think it comes back to my teammates. Volleyball is a team sport and Kiana [Rogers] was setting perfect balls and all our great passers in the back row all helped me to come up with those kills."

Walker’s presence was invaluable to the Cougars last week, leading the Cougars in kills both games. She tallied a career-high 32 kills against SDSU while maintaining a .500 hitting percentage. She took a total of 58 swings and only had three errors. Her playing was phenomenal in that match. Her 32 kills is the third-highest total in MWC league-match history.

Even against Air Force she posted 10 kills while being on the sideline for most of set two. The Cougars were tied up in set two with many subs in for the starters. Walker subbed in for the last two points – scoring the final points of the set. Thursday’s match against SDSU marked her third double-double of the 2009 season, the only Cougar to have even one double-double on the season.
