PROVO -- The BYU women’s volleyball team will get a taste of competition on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Smith Fieldhouse as the Cougars compete in a blue/white match prior to the start of regular-season play on Friday.

Fans are encouraged to come watch the team and contribute to a match-like atmosphere. The Cougars will be divided into blue and white squads and will play the best of five sets.

“We are excited to start our season with a true match-like experience in the Smith Fieldhouse,” said BYU head coach Shay Goulding. “The girls are looking forward to getting started and showing their fans what they have to look forward to this season. It’s a great opportunity for us to get going and to compete."

The team has been practicing since Aug. 7 in preparation for the 2009 season. BYU will travel to Colombia, Miss. to compete in the Tiger Invitational against Ole Miss this Friday and against Texas State and Missouri on Saturday. Prior to coming home for its first match at home, BYU will play at Utah State on Sept. 1, then will return home to host the Nike Classic on Sept. 4 and 5.
