No. 16 Cougars Returns Home
PROVO -- With over half of the regular season behind them, the No. 16 Cougars have tallied an undefeated 13-0 record and are in sole possession of first place in the Mountain West Conference with a 6-0 mark. Those accomplishments will be put to the test this weekend as Air Force and New Mexico head to town.
"It will be good to be home this weekend," said Watson. "It's homecoming and we're excited to get back into our gym and compete in front of our fans. They've been wonderfully supportive all year long and we hope they continue to support us as we move forward in the conference season. We are excited by this part of our schedule. Both Air Force and New Mexico are important conference matches and both teams present our team with different challenges. Our team will need to respond and play well."
After playing four of their last six matches on the road, the Cougars begin a five-match homestand on Friday against Air Force before facing New Mexico on Saturday on Elaine Michaelis Court. The Cougars have already defeated both teams on the road this season and will look to start the season 14-0 for the first time since 1977.
Friday's match against the Falcons will begin at 7 p.m. and can be heard on BYU Radio. Saturday's contest against New Mexico will start at 5 p.m. Live stats are available for both matches by going to the schedule page of the BYU women's volleyball homepage at http://www.byucougars.com/volleyball_w/.
BYU went on the road last week and came home with two big wins, sweeping Colorado State and Wyoming to move to 13-0 on the season for the first time since 1987. The Cougars' three-game win over the Rams marked the first BYU sweep in Fort Collins since 1988.
"I felt that it was an important road swing for our team," said BYU head coach Jason Watson. "What continues to amaze me about our team is how they've grown and matured; they're really becoming a very cohesive unit." Chelsea Goodman recorded her sixth double-double of the year at CSU with 14 kills and 10 digs while Lexi Brown Patterson tallied season-highs of nine kills on .667 hitting.
