LARAMIE -- A day after sweeping Colorado State, No. 16 BYU recorded its third straight sweep Saturday night as the Cougars defeated Wyoming 30-22, 30-22, 31-29 in Laramie to stay unbeaten in 2005. With the win, BYU has now equaled its best start since 1987 at 13-0 overall and 6-0 in Mountain West Conference play.

"I felt that this was an important road swing for our team," said BYU head coach Jason Watson. "Wyoming was an important match for us. It's one that we let get away from us last year. Tonight, we were able to play well, play composed and pull out a victory against a very nice Wyoming team."

Sophomore outside hitter Erica Lott led BYU with 16 kills on .379 hitting and has now recorded double-digit kills in every match this season. She was aided on the offensive side by fellow sophomore outside hitter Chelsea Goodman, who had 13 kills, and senior rightside hitter Lexi Brown Patterson, who notched career-highs in both kills (nine) and hitting percentage (.667).

Junior middle blocker Lindsy Hartsock contributed seven kills on .636 hitting, the seventh match in which she has hit .500 or better. Hartsock also combined with redshirt freshman Rachel Dyer to lead BYU with three blocks apiece. True freshman Janvier Beaumont paced the Cougars with 10 digs, her third career double-digit dig effort.

The Cougars made it look easy in games one and two, cruising to 30-22 victories in both periods of play. After keeping it close throughout the first two-thirds of both games, BYU turned it on at the end, outscoring Wyoming 20-9 in both races to 30. BYU hit .405 in game one thanks in part to five kills from Lott, who then added six more in game two to help the Cougars hit .350.

Wyoming gave BYU a run for its money in game three, leading throughout much of the first half. The Cougars broke through towards the end to take a 28-24 lead and then a 29-27 match-point opportunity, but the Cowgirls fought off the two match-ending points, tying the score at 29-29. However, the high-powered Cougar offense was not to be denied as Brown Patterson and Goodman tallied kills on the next two points to give BYU the 31-29 win.

BYU now returns home to face Air Force and New Mexico Friday and Saturday on Elaine Michaelis Court. The Cougars have already defeated both teams on the road this season and will look to start the season 14-0 for the first time since 1977. Friday's match against the Falcons will begin at 7 p.m. and can be heard on BYU Radio. Saturday's contest against New Mexico will start at 5 p.m. Live stats are available for both matches by going to the schedule page of the BYU women's volleyball homepage at http://www.byucougars.com/volleyball_w/.

"It will be good to be home this weekend," said Watson. "It's homecoming and we're excited to get back into our gym and compete in front of our fans. They've been wonderfully supportive all year long and we hope they continue to support us as we move forward in the conference season."
