PROVO -- In an all-around team effort, the Cougars posted a four-game victory over the visiting New Mexico Lobos Saturday night in the Smith Fieldhouse with scores of 30-19, 26-30, 30-24, 30-21. Four BYU players recorded double-digit kills and three picked up double-digit digs as the Cougars moved to 14-9 overall and 6-4 in Mountain West Conference play.

"This was definitely a team effort," said BYU head coach Karen Lamb. "New Mexico made us play better and be our best. Everybody contributed at different times and things ended up going our way."

The match started out solidly for the Cougars as they dominated game one with an early 11-3 run and kept the Lobos out of their game, holding them to a dismal -.031 hitting to take a 30-19 game one victory.

New Mexico came out a different team in game two and did something no Lobo team has been able to accomplish since 1995 -- take a game from the Cougars. New Mexico led the entire way and picked up four blocks while holding BYU to .091 hitting in the 30-26 win, ending the Cougars' streak of 19 straight sweeps over the Lobos.

However, BYU refused hand the match over and came out strong in the last two games. Erica Lott saw her first action of the night to begin game three and responded with a total of 13 kills on a career-high .722 hitting to help BYU earn the 30-24 and 30-21 wins.

"Erica (Lott) came in and gave us a nice lift in the second half of the match," Lamb said. "Kim Wilson, Lindsy Hartsock and Mandi Kiholm also gave us a lot of help. It was really just a team effort."

The ball was spread around well as several Cougars saw big numbers in the match. Hartsock and Lott each picked up 13 kills to lead all players while Lexi Brown added 10. True freshman Chelsea Goodman also picked up 10 kills and 10 digs, both career-highs, on her way to the first double-double of her career. Lauren Richards and Lindsey Metcalf also had 10 digs apiece. Hartsock pounded a career-high six aces and Kiholm added a career-high five blocks.

BYU will now prepare to head out on the road for the last time in this regular season as the team travels to UNLV and San Diego State next Friday and Saturday. The Cougars recorded sweeps of both teams in Provo earlier this year and will look to repeat history against their MWC foes.
