BYU Beats Wyoming For Third Conference Win

LARAMIE -- Bouncing back from a three-game defeat at the hands of No. 3 Colorado State, the No. 14 BYU women's volleyball team defeated Wyoming 15-8, 15-12, 15-3 Saturday in Laramie. The win improves the Cougars' conference record to 3-1, and ups their overall record to 11-4 on the season.

Junior All-American Nina Puikkonen recorded a match-high 13 kills for BYU on her way to a .409 hitting percentage. The Cougar defense held Wyoming to a .120 hitting percentage on the night.

Coach Elaine Michaelis was pleased with the win, and noted BYU's strong serving game. The Cougars recorded 12 service aces while committing only 7 service errors in the three games.

Michaelis was also complimentary of the effort given by her opponent.

"Wyoming played with good enthusiasm," Michaelis said. "They're a developing team, and they did some very nice things tonight."

The Cougars will continue conference play next week, hosting in-state rival Utah on Friday at 7 p.m.
