Four Cougars named to CSC Academic All-District team
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Four BYU women’s volleyball student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team, the organization announced today.
Opposite hitter Kate Grimmer, outside hitter Erin Livingston, middle blocker Whitney Llarenas and libero Aria McComber all received the honor that recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances both on the court and in the classroom.
To qualify for nomination, student-athletes must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher and be a significant contributor in at least half of their team’s games during the 2022 season.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Those who are selected for first-, second- and third-team honorees will be announced on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
Hailing from Queen Creek, Arizona, Grimmer is fifth on the team with 82 kills while also recording 32 assists and 37 total blocks. She is a global supply chain management major and holds a 3.54 GPA.
Leading the team in kills, at 391, Livingston also ranks No. 12 in the nation in kills per set (4.44) and No. 17 in points per set (4.92). The Corona, California native has posted a 3.5 GPA as a family life major.
Llarenas, a marriage, family and human development master’s student with a 3.79 GPA has hit .407 this season, the country’s 11th-highest hitting clip. Out of Bountiful, Utah, she has recorded 195 kills and 85 total blocks, second-most on the team this year.
From Kapolei, Hawai’i, McComber is second on the team in digs this season, with 212. She is also second on the team in service aces, with 22. McComber has tallied 73 assists and boasts a 3.83 GPA as an environmental science and business administration master’s student.
