Llarenas named WCC Defensive Player of the Week
SAN MATEO, Calif. — BYU women's volleyball middle blocker Whitney Llarenas was named West Coast Conference (WCC) Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Llarenas was a force on the BYU defense this week, helping the Cougars at the net to back-to-back sweeps over conference foes Santa Clara and San Francisco. Averaging 1.67 blocks per set, the graduate student totaled 10 blocks in two matches, sending back a career-high eight blocks against the Dons on Saturday.
The Bountiful, Utah product also recorded one dig and tallied 13 kills on a .545 clip. This is the first WCC honor of Llarenas' BYU career. With fellow middle blocker Heather Gneiting winning the award last week, it is the Cougars' second weekly WCC honor this season.
