SAN MATEO, Calif. – BYU junior setter Whitney Bower collected West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.

Currently on a nine-match winning streak, with 27 consecutive set victories and ranked No. 9 in the nation, BYU is dominating offensively. BYU ranks No. 1 in the nation for hitting percentage (.337) and No. 3 for kills per set (14.50). BYU is also No. 2 for opponent hitting percentage (.106)

On Thursday, Oct. 7, BYU notched a .430 hitting percentage against Portland, holding the Pilots to .027. Days later on Saturday, Oct. 9, the Cougars hit their highest clip of the season, at .472, against Gonzaga. The Bulldogs managed a .034 clip.

A big contributor to BYU's hitting percentage is Bower. With 81 total assists last week, the award-winning setter set up six different Cougars to hit a .421 clip or higher. Additionally, she boasted 12 digs, seven kills and an ace.

During her career thus far, the WCC has recognized Bower’s talent on several occasions. At the end of last season, she received the title of WCC Player of the Year and WCC Setter of the Year. This stands as her first player of the week honor of the season.

Within the team, opposite hitter Kenzie Koerber also received the offensive player of the week award on Sept. 20.
