SAN MATEO, Calif. – True freshman libero Madi Allen collected her second West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week award of the season, the league announced on Monday.

Allen averaged 5.00 digs per set, totaling 55 digs, to help No. 12 BYU beat Utah Valley and defeat Gonzaga in a two-match series. The libero’s play helped the Cougars hold opponents to a combined .180 hitting percentage in the three wins.

After tallying a season-high 21 digs in a 3-1 victory over UVU, Allen recorded her first career double-double with 18 digs and 13 assists in BYU’s first win against Gonzaga. The freshman finished the week with a 16-dig performance in the Cougars’ sweep of the Bulldogs in the second matchup of the series.

Allen has now received the award two times in the first three weeks of the season, leading all players in the conference.
