Allen Named WCC Defensive Player of the Week

SAN MATEO, Calif. – Freshman libero Madi Allen had double-digit digs in each of BYU’s two matches last week, earning her West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

The true freshman made an immediate impact on the court for No. 16 BYU women’s volleyball, totaling 17 digs and six assists in her first collegiate match. Allen’s play helped BYU hold Portland to a .108 team hitting percentage in the Cougars’ first sweep of the Pilots.

Allen then recorded 10 digs the next day to reach double-digit digs in consecutive matches and help BYU sweep Portland a second time.

In six sets, the freshman averaged 4.50 digs while helping hold the Pilots to a combined .206 hitting percentage.
