Four Cougars Claim All-Region Honors
PROVO, Utah – Following another 25-win season and NCAA Tournament berth, four BYU women's volleyball student-athletes earned AVCA Pacific South All-Region honors Tuesday.
Senior libero Mary Lake, senior outside hitter McKenna Miller and sophomore middle blocker Heather Gneiting were named to the All-Region team while junior outside hitter Kennedy Eschenberg was named honorable mention.
The Cougars' four awardees tied for most in the region and second-most in a season in program history.
Lake, an All-American and U.S. National Team member, is the Cougars' all-time leader in career digs as a four-year starter. Named the West Coast Conference's best defender three years in a row, Lake is also third in sets played, seventh in aces and 10th in assists in the BYU career rally scoring era record books.
A three-time All-American, Miller was named this year's WCC Player of the Year. The senior finished her career sixth in the BYU rally scoring era in kills and points and eighth in sets played.
Gneiting earned her second region honor after earning All-Region and All-America honors last season as a freshman. This season, the All-WCC awardee had 138 blocks while hitting .303 and collecting 20 aces.
Eschenberg, an All-WCC and Academic All-District awardee this season, had 134 blocks and hit .353 this season. The junior is currently sixth in career hitting percentage and seventh in career blocks in program history.
All-Region awardees are now eligible for All-America consideration; All-Americans will be announced on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
