Bower Takes WCC Player of the Week Honor
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – No. 9 BYU women's volleyball freshman setter Whitney Bower was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
Bower continued her strong play last week in two BYU sweeps, helping the Cougars improve to 16-2 and 7-0 in conference play. The freshman first secured 32 assists and three kills in BYU’s win over San Francisco, helping BYU hit .344 for the match, while adding an ace. During the match she became the BYU freshman rally era leader in assists. She also came up big on defense with six digs and three blocks.
Against Santa Clara, Bower was one dig short of a double-double, finishing with nine digs, 15 assists, four kills, an ace and a block in another sweep.
The award is Bower's first of her career and third for BYU this season, adding to two from senior outside hitter McKenna Miller earlier this year.
The Cougars have one match this week, facing current WCC co-leader San Diego (14-4, 7-0) in the Smith Fieldhouse on Friday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. MT on BYUtv.
