Cougars compete in Blue-White match
PROVO, Utah – BYU women’s volleyball held a Blue-White scrimmage Saturday afternoon at the Smith Fieldhouse, giving fans a preview of the 2019 squad.
BYU coach Heather Olmstead had her team play four sets while mixing lineups between the Blue and the White teams. The White team dropped the first set before winning the last three (18-25, 25-12, 25-18, 25-21).
McKenna Miller registered a match-high 19 kills while adding eight blocks. Kennedy Eschenberg registered 13 kills on a .500 hitting percentage and Mary Lake led the way with 21 digs.
Other key contributors included Kate Grimmer with 13 kills, Madelyn Robinson with 11 kills and Whitney Bower with a double-double of 38 assists, 11 digs and four aces.
BYU enters the season ranked No. 9 in the preseason AVCA Coaches Poll. The Cougars open the season hosting Boise State, No. 16 Marquette and Utah Valley in the Nike Invitational Friday and Saturday, Aug. 30 and 31. BYU's first match will be Friday at noon against Boise State. The match will be broadcast live on BYUtv.org and the BYUtv app.
