PROVO, Utah – BYU women’s volleyball coach Heather Olmstead announced today that sophomore opposite hitter Sara Hamson suffered a knee injury and will be out indefinitely.

Hamson was injured earlier this week and underwent surgery. She is expected to make a full recovery.

“Sara had a great freshman year and contributed to our success last season,” Olmstead. “She’s worked hard over the summer and we were looking forward to seeing her on the court. I know she’s going to put in the work to get healthy again and we can’t wait to have her back.”

As a freshman in 2017, Hamson appeared in 15 matches and started four. She hit .230 on the year, added 13 blocks and posted season highs of seven kills and five blocks.

As a center on the basketball team in 2017-18, Hamson was the WCC Defensive Player of the Year and led the nation in blocks per game at 4.3. The Lindon, Utah, native added averages of 5.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
