Four Cougars receive WCC All-Academic honors
PROVO, Utah – Four BYU women’s volleyball players received West Coast Conference All-Academic accolades, the league announced Wednesday.
Junior outside hitter Veronica Jones-Perry and sophomore libero Mary Lake each made the all-academic team while senior middle blocker Cosy Burnett and junior setter Lyndie Haddock collected honorable mention honors.
Jones-Perry was named to the All-WCC First Team this season after leading the conference in kills (4.72) and points per set (5.48). She also leads the Cougar squad in aces, amassing 37 total to date. Jones-Perry made the team with a 3.60 GPA in her microbiology major.
Lake was named the WCC Defender of the Year after collecting a conference-best 4.43 digs per set. She has also contributed 122 assists and 24 aces on the year. Lake keeps a 3.61 GPA in her major of accounting.
Burnett is the No. 2 blocker in the WCC and currently leads the Cougar squad with 1.38 blocks per set. She has also added 2.21 kills per set while hitting at a .347 clip to go with 26 aces and 48 digs.
Haddock is third in WCC play in assists per set (9.96). She has guided BYU to a .273 hitting percentage so far on the year. Additionally, she collects 2.04 digs per set and 0.96 blocks per set to help the team.
Players are added to the all-academic team for maintaining academic excellence while being significant contributors to their team.
This is the first such honor for Jones-Perry, Lake and Burnett. Haddock was previously named honorable mention a year ago.
