Cougars earn WCC postseason honors
PROVO, Utah – Mary Lake was named the West Coast Conference Defender of the Year and Kennedy Redding was named the WCC Freshman of the Year to headline BYU women’s volleyball, the league announced Monday.
Lake was also added to the All-WCC First Team along with Cosy Burnett and Veronica Jones-Perry. Additionally, Redding was added to the All-WCC Freshman Team. Lyndie Haddock and McKenna Miller picked up All-WCC Honorable Mention accolades to round out the Cougar postseason honors.
Lake averaged 4.27 digs per set in conference play, most on the team and second-most in the league.
In WCC play, Redding contributed 1.40 blocks per set to lead the team (third in league play) to go with 1.27 kills per set. She also hit at a .306 clip – good for ninth-best in the conference.
Burnett averaged 1.35 blocks per set during WCC competition (fourth-best in the league) along with 2.39 kills per set. She also contributed 17 service aces. Her .376 hitting percentage was third-best in the league.
Jones-Perry led the WCC in kills per set (4.95) and points per set (5.86) and was second in aces per set (0.45) and 10th in hitting percentage (.300).
Haddock collected 10.31 assists per set (third-best in the league) to go with 2.29 digs per set and 0.92 blocks per set.
In WCC play, Miller averaged 2.85 kills per set. She also collected 29 digs and 23 blocks during conference play.
Last year, Lake was named to the All-WCC Honorable Mention and All-WCC Freshman Teams. Jones-Perry was previously named to the All-WCC Freshman Team in 2015. Miller was named the WCC Freshman of the Year last season as well as the All-WCC First Team and All-WCC Freshman Team.
