Cougars ranked No. 10 in preseason poll

PROVO, Utah – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) ranked BYU women’s volleyball No. 10 in the nation in the preseason coaches’ poll, released Wednesday.

With 975 points, BYU is one of two WCC teams in the preseason top 25. San Diego is ranked No. 22.

Additionally, multiple other 2017 Cougar opponents are ranked: Missouri at No. 19, Hawai’i at No. 20, Ohio State at No. 21 and Utah is ranked No. 23.

Baylor and Boise State, also on the 2017 schedule, are receiving votes with 37 and 21 points, respectively.

BYU finished the 2016 season ranked No. 8 after reaching the regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament for a fifth-consecutive season. The Cougars finished with a 29-4 overall record as well as a third-straight outright West Coast Conference title after going 16-2 in league play.

The national runner-up, Texas, was named No. 1 heading into the season, followed by the defending national champions Stanford at No. 2 and Washington at No. 3.

BYU opens the 2017 season at home hosting the BYU Invitational against Saint Louis Friday, Aug. 25, at noon MDT.
