Women's volleyball receives NCAA APR award

PROVO, Utah – The BYU women’s volleyball team received an NCAA Public Recognition Award for its Academic Progress Rate (APR) during the 2015-16 academic year, the NCAA and the Division I Committee on Academics announced last week.
The honor is bestowed on teams with an NCAA Division I APR in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports during the 2015-16 season.
Implemented in 2003 as part of an ambitious academic reform effort in Division I, the APR holds institutions accountable for the academic progress of their student-athletes through a team-based metric that accounts for the eligibility and retention of each student-athlete for each academic term.
The APR system includes rewards for superior academic performance and penalties for teams that do not achieve certain academic benchmarks. Data are collected annually.
This is the first such honor for women’s volleyball since the 2007-08 season.
Other West Coast Conference teams honored this year for APR’s in the top 10 percent in the nation include San Diego and Pacific.
