PROVO, Utah – Former BYU women’s volleyball middle blocker Amy Boswell was today named one of two 2017 NCAA DI Women’s HERO of the Year honorable mention recipients. The HERO of the Year award celebrates one female and one male graduating senior in each division of NCAA athletics.

HERO of the Year finalists are student-athletes who have demonstrated tremendous athletic, academic and leadership skill throughout their collegiate careers. Sarah Gibson from Texas A&M was named the winner of this year’s award. UConn’s Anna Middendorf joins Boswell as one of the two honorable mention recipients.

A leader on and off the court, Boswell finished her time at BYU as one of the most accolated in Cougar women’s volleyball history. She helped her squad advance to the regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament every year she was in uniform, including a trip to the national championship match in 2014. Most recently, Boswell was named an AVCA First-Team All-American and was added to the AVCA All-Pacific South Region First Team, the All-WCC First Team, the Senior Class Award All-America Second Team and the All-District 8 First Team.

Off the field, Boswell is graduating this year from BYU’s nursing program with a 3.88 GPA. She was named the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year, added to the CoSIDA All-Academic First Team as well as the Academic All-WCC First Team. Boswell has also made an impact serving in her church callings as the chair of a service council in 2016 and, most recently, as the president of her ward’s Relief Society. She has additionally spent countless hours completing her clinical studies at a nearby hospital over the last three years.

Boswell joins former Cougar football quarterback Taysom Hill as a 2017 honorable mention recipient of the HERO of the Year award. BYU was the only school in the country to have both a female and male athlete recognized.
