Boswell named CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year
AUSTIN, Texas – Senior middle blocker Amy Boswell has been named the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Division I Academic All-America® of the Year honoree for the sport of women's volleyball, the organization announced Thursday.
Boswell has earned a 3.90 GPA to date in her nursing major. She was named to the All-West Coast Conference First Team this year as well as the AVCA All-Pacific South Region First Team.
She has helped lead the Cougars to a 29-3 overall record this season, as the team has advanced to its fifth-consecutive regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament. Boswell leads BYU in blocks per set with 1.25 and hitting percentage with a .380 clip. She also earned first team honors in 2015.
Boswell joins Aubrey Edie of Mississippi, Leah Mikesky of Rice, Kadie Rolfzen of Nebraska, Paige Tapp of Minnesota and Teegan Van Gunst of Georgia Tech on the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team.
Twelve of the 18 members of the three academic All-America teams have at least a 3.90 GPA or higher. The six members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.89.
To be nominated, players must have at least a 3.30 GPA and be an important starter or reserve for her team, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and have participated in at least 50 percent of her team’s matches.
Boswell previously earned Academic All-District 8 honors this year. Last season, she was the first WCC student-athlete to capture CoSIDA Academic All-American accolades in the sport of volleyball.
Boswell is just the third Cougar and sixth WCC student-athlete all-time to receive the CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year award.
