Cougars pick up WCC postseason honors

PROVO, Utah – McKenna Miller was named the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year and was added to the All-WCC First Team along with Amy Boswell and Whitney Young Howard, the league announced Monday.

Additionally, Miller was added to the All-WCC Freshman Team along with Mary Lake. Lake was also named All-WCC Honorable Mention.

Miller averaged 3.73 kills per set this year in conference play, the third-highest average in the conference. She also collected 30 blocks in league competition.

Boswell averaged 1.27 blocks per set in WCC play, second-most in the league. Additionally, she had a .386 hitting percentage in WCC competition, second-highest on the team and fourth-highest in the conference.

Howard averaged 1.20 blocks per set in league competition, third-most in the WCC. Her .391 clip was the second-highest on the team and third-highest in the league.

Lake averaged 4.53 digs per set to lead the WCC in league play. She also contributed 10 aces in WCC play, second-most on the team.

This is Boswell’s second-straight season being named to the All-WCC First Team. She was added to the All-WCC Honorable Mention squad as a sophomore. Last season, she was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Year.

Howard was previously named to the First Team in 2014, when she picked up WCC Defensive Player of the Year honors. She was named to the Honorable Mention list a season ago and was named the WCC Freshman of the Year in 2013.
