Lake collects WCC Player of the Week honors
PROVO, Utah — BYU freshman libero Mary Lake has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Her defense in the back row helped lead No. 10 BYU women's volleyball to three wins, including against host No. 11 Ohio State, and the Sports Imports D.C. Koehl Classic title.
In a sweep of Wyoming, Lake contributed a team-high 10 digs, an ace and three assists. Later that day in another sweep against LIU Brooklyn, she added another team-high 13 digs, a match-high three aces and four assists.
Then, against the Buckeyes, Lake helped BYU win a five-set thriller in come-from-behind fashion. After falling behind two sets, Lake's 38 digs helped advance the Cougars to victory. Her 38 digs were a career and match high and were the second-most digs ever collected in a match in BYU rally-scoring era history.
For her help in the tournament sweep, Lake was named the Most Valuable Player of the invitational and added to the all-tournament team.
This is her first career weekly WCC honor and first for the Cougars this season.
