Cougars receive AVCA All-Region honors

PROVO, Utah – Two BYU women’s volleyball players received American Volleyball Coaches Association regional honors, the organization announced Tuesday.

Senior outside hitter Alexa Gray and junior middle blocker Amy Boswell received AVCA All-Pacific South Region First Team honors.

Gray leads the conference in kills and in second in the nation with 5.22 per set while additionally contributing 2.37 digs per set. She was named the 2015 West Coast Conference Player of the Year (her second-straight honor), an AVCA National Player of the Week as well as the WCC Player of the Week five times this season.

Boswell leads the WCC in blocks per set, averaging 1.40. She contributes a team-high .378 hitting percentage and has a team-high 153 blocks. Boswell was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Year and collected a WCC Player of the Week accolade earlier this season. She also earned Academic All-District 8 honors earlier this year for maintaining a 3.90 GPA in her nursing major.

This is Gray's third-straight all-region honor and second consecutive for Boswell.

The Cougars face No. 4 seed Nebraska in the regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament Friday at 5 p.m. EST in Lexington, Kentucky.
