LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) honored the 2014 BYU women's volleyball squad with its own Team Academic Award.

"Our team understands the importance of success both on and off the court," BYU head coach Heather Olmstead said. "BYU is known for its academic success, so I'm grateful that they value getting a good education while excelling in the sport they love."

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 school year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that display excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) for the entire academic year.

The Cougars are just one of 146 Division I programs to qualify for this year's award and are one of just three West Coast Conference schools to receive the honor. Fellow league members San Francisco and Saint Mary's also earned the accolade.

The award comes after 10 women's volleyball student-athletes were named to the WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Additionally in 2014, five Cougars were named to the WCC All-Academic Team. Amy Boswell also took home the Elite 89 award, given to the student-athlete in Final Four competition with the highest overall GPA.

The complete list of AVCA recipients can be found on its awards page.
