Three Cougars receive All-America accolades

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has named Jennifer Hamson, Alexa Gray and Amy Boswell Division I All-Americans, the associaton announced Wednesday.

Hamson, who plays opposite for BYU, was named First-Team All-American. She leads the Cougars with 3.75 kills, 1.35 blocks and 1.46 digs per set. Hamson was additionally named to the All-WCC First Team in 2014 as well as to the 2014 All-Pacific South Region squad. She was named the Most Valuable Player of the Seattle Region in the NCAA tournament last week. Hamson was previously named First-Team All-American as a junior and received All-American Honorable Mention accolades as a sophomore.

Gray, a junior from Calgary, Alberta, was named Second-Team All-American. She contributes 3.63 kills and 0.81 blocks per set in her outside hitter position. Gray was named the 2014 WCC Player of the Year in addition to being named to the All-WCC First Team and All-Pacific South Region First Team. She was added to the Seattle Region All-Tournament team last week, and as a sophomore, was named Honorable Mention All-American.

Boswell, a native of Aloha, Oregon, was named Honorable Mention All-American as a sophomore. She is second in the nation in blocks per set at 1.67 while contributing the highest hitting percentage of the team at .344. She was named to the All-Pacific South Region First Team and collected All-WCC Honorable Mention accolades. Additionally, she was added to the Seattle Region All-Tournament team. Ths is the first All-America honor for Boswell. 

The Cougars face off against No. 2-seed Texas in the national semifinals of the NCAA tournament Thursday at 6 p.m. CST in Oklahoma City. The match can be seen live on ESPN2 or heard on live on BYU Radio. Links to live stats can be found on the BYU women's volleyball schedule page
