Five Cougars receive Academic All-WCC accolades
PROVO, Utah – Five BYU women’s volleyball players were named to the Academic All-West Coast Conference teams, the league announced Wednesday, for maintaining academic excellence while being significant contributors to their team.
Sophomore middle blocker Amy Boswell, senior opposite Jennifer Hamson and senior defensive specialist Tia Withers Welling received first-team honors for the Cougars.
Boswell, who is second on the team and nation in blocks averaging 1.67 per set, made the team with a 3.92 GPA in her nursing major. Boswell also earned Academic All-District 8 honors.
Hamson is second on the team in kills, averaging 3.60 per set while contributing 1.34 blocks per set for third-most on the team and in the conference. She has maintained a 3.48 GPA while studying exercise science. This is Hamson's third conference academic honor.
Welling helps the Cougars, averaging 1.87 digs per set while majoring in P.E. teaching/coaching and maintaining a 3.84 GPA. This is the third-consecutive year that Welling has made the list.
Additionally, Tambre Nobles and Whitney Young were named Academic All-WCC Honorable Mention.
Nobles contributes 2.05 kills and 1.69 digs per set to help pace the Cougars from her outside hitter position. She maintains a 3.67 GPA in her P.E. teaching/coaching major.
Young, a middle blocker for BYU, leads the team and nation in blocks - collecting a 1.93 blocks-per-set average while keeping a 3.64 GPA in exercise science.
