PROVO, Utah – BYU women’s volleyball begins spring practice today, preparing for several off-season matches in March and April.

Spring play will launch with a home match against Idaho State on March 22 at 11 a.m. MDT. The Cougars last played the Bengals in Pocatello a year ago to start their 2013 spring slate. BYU came home with a 3-0 victory in that matchup.

The Cougars will then travel up the road on March 29 to the University of Utah to take part in an all-day tournament. BYU will follow up that invitational with a home match against Utah on April 4 at 4 p.m. MDT.

Following the Utah match, the Cougars will hit the road again on April 12 to take on Colorado State. The Rams finished the 2013 season with a 28-2 record, including a 27-match win streak. This will be the first matchup between the two schools since BYU won 3-1 at the Wichita State Invitational in 2012.

BYU welcomes two newcomers to the roster for the 2014 season – Danelle Parady and Malery Wahlin – after losing three seniors, including starter Kathryn LeCheminant. The Cougars will also see the return of senior All-American Jennifer Hamson, who redshirted the 2013 season to focus on playing basketball.

In 2013, BYU ended the season by going to its second-consecutive round of 16 match in the NCAA tournament. The Cougars took second in West Coast Conference play (15-3) and finished with a 24-7 overall record.
