BYU ranked No. 13 in preseason poll

PROVO, Utah—The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) ranked BYU women’s volleyball No. 13 in the nation in the preseason poll, which was released Monday.

BYU finished No. 12 last season after reaching the region semifinals of the 2012 NCAA tournament. The Cougars went 28-4 and 13-3 in West Coast Conference play, earning them a share of the conference title.

With 728 points, BYU is the only WCC team in the preseason top 25 of the preseason poll this season. San Diego received 101 votes, Pepperdine received 65 and Saint Mary’s received 27.

Creighton, BYU’s only 2013 opponent in the top 25, is No. 25. Four opponents are receiving votes.

Texas, the 2012 NCAA Champion, was named No. 1 going into the season with 55 first-place votes. Penn State is No. 2 and Stanford is No. 3.
