PROVO, Utah—BYU women’s volleyball finished up spring competition with a 7-2 record following a successful run in the UVU tournament Saturday.

"As a staff we enjoyed the training block and all the progress we made as a team," head coach Shawn Olmstead said. "It was exciting to watch a new group learn to work and compete together. There was valuable growth and repetition as it pertains to the continual improvement of our program. As always, August can't arrive soon enough."

Jennifer Hamson led the team with 62 kills on a .413 clip. She also had 17 blocks and 26 digs. Outside hitter Alexa Gray had 59 kills on .331 hitting and newcomer Tambre Haddock had 41 on .259 hitting. Haddock also had 30 digs, third most on the team.

Libero/defensive specialist Ciara Parker led the team with 78 digs and at middle blocker, rookie Amy Boswell led the way with 26 blocks.

BYU swept Idaho State (25-12, 25-19) for the second time this spring to start off the tournament and followed it up with two more 2-0 victories against Dixie State (25-19, 25-17) and UVU (25-19, 25-22). The team’s only loss came to Utah with a 2-1 score (25-23, 21-25, 15-13).

Previously the Cougars took down Idaho State to launch the off-season competition. BYU won 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-22), then split the additional two sets played with the Bengals (24-26, 15-13). BYU followed that up with wins against Weber State (25-12, 25-12) and Salt Lake Community College (25-10, 25-18) in the Utah tournament, but fell to the Utes on Utah’s home court (25-22, 25-18).

BYU also defeated the Utes 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21) in the Cougars’ only home stand this spring on April 5. BYU also won the additional fifth set played (15-10).

Saturday marked the end of spring practice for the team.
