Swim Team Starts Invite Strong
LONG BEACH, Calif. – After day one of the 2011 Arena Invite, the BYU relays are anchoring the team’s points, putting the men in sixth place with 143 and the women in eighth with 104.
The men’s 200 free relay team of Jordan Fletcher, David Armstrong, Ryan Krause and Garret Beaman placed fifth with a time of 1:22.45. The women’s team of Taryn Toolson, Andrea Grant, Kim Welch and Hailey Campbell placed ninth in the same event with a time of 1:33.86.
In the 400-medley relay, Fletcher, Armstrong, Beaman and Brady Wells placed seventh, touching in at 3:21.02. Campbell, Toolson, Welch and Kassandra Bispo grabbed ninth in the same event with a time of 3:45.90.
Individuals who posted significant times for the first day include Rafael Alfaro and Toolson. Alfaro obtained a time of 1:51.80 for the 200 IM preliminaries, as well as a finals time of 1:51.08 that put him in 13th place overall. Toolson took ninth place in the prelims of the 50 free with her time of 23.17 before posting a finals time of 23.07, gaining a ninth place finish.
Beaman and Fletcher grabbed 13th and 15th in the finals of the men’s 50 free with times of 20.76 and 20.99, respectively.
