MONTEREY PARK, Calif. – The Cougar women recorded a program-best time during the first meet of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships at East Los Angeles Community College Wednesday.

“The woman broke the school record in the 200-yard medley relay and we’re really excited,” BYU head coach John Brooks said. “The men’s 200-yard medley relay was a season best and just barely off the school record, so that was impressive as well. Both 800-yard freestyle relays were much faster than we’ve had all season. We are feeling ready to go tomorrow.”

A team of Brynn Sproul, Lily Plaudis, Charlotte Fieeiki and Gwen Gustafson recorded a new all-time best time for BYU in the women’s 200-yard medley relay, posting a time of 1:39.24 and finishing third.

The men took fourth in the men’s 200-yard medley relay with Jake Walters, Josue Dominguez, Javier Nicolas and Connor Stirling touching at 1:26.95.

The women took another top-three placement, finishing third in the 800-yard freestyle relay. A squad of Katie McBratney, Sproul, Jessica LeSueur and Tiare Coker finished with a time of 7:21.89.

For the men’s 800-yard freestyle relay, a team of Javier Matta, James Sorenson, Brayden Murphy and Levi Jensen landed in fifth at 6:36.73.

The MPSF Championships continue Thursday with prelims at 10 a.m. PST and finals following at 6 p.m. PST. Diving will begin Thursday at 10 a.m. PST at the Marguerite Aquatic Center.
