Ng, Hatanaka both win Athlete of the Week
PROVO, Utah – BYU men's swimmer Rainer Ng and women's swimmer Kelly Hatanaka were named male and female Mountain Pacific Sports Federation/Turbo Athletes of the Week for their performances at the Colorado Mesa Invite last Friday and Saturday.
Hatanaka, a freshman from Loveland, Colorado, showed promise in her first collegiate competition, taking first place in the 400-yard individual medley with a 4:31.65 finish (4:26.65, altitude converted). She also earned a first in the 500 freestyle, swimming a 5:09.55 (5:04.55, altitude converted). She placed third in the 200 IM with just five minutes of rest. This selection is Hatanaka’s first as MPSF Athlete of the Week.
Ng, a junior from Singapore, took the 100- and 200-fly events. He finished the 100 fly in 49.32, and his time of 1:49.59 (1:48.49, altitude converted) in the 200 fly set a pool record. Ng also placed third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.33. This is Ng’s fourth selection as MPSF Athlete of the Week.
