Owls Fly Into Provo For Soccer on Saturday
PROVO, Utah - The 20th-ranked BYU women's soccer team gets set to host its third-straight home game this Saturday, Sept. 10, when they take on the Rice Owls at 7 p.m. MT on South Field.
The Cougars are 4-1-1 this season, have won three straight games and are on their way to record-setting attendance crowds with 4,633, 4,437, 4,265 and 3,374 fans already logged for this year's four home games.
Senior goalkeeper McKinzie Olson has now tallied a shutout and 25 saves in front of the net for BYU. Olson is just eight shutouts away from becoming the Cougars' all-time career shutout leader.
The first seven BYU goals of the 2011 season were scored by seven different players with the eighth and ninth coming from Colette Jepson, a transfer from UNLV. The team has now totalled 13 goals to date, off 10 different Cougars.
Saturday's game will be broadcast live on BYUtv and online at byutv.org/live. Just create a free, new account to watch. Jared Johnson and Natalyn Lewis will provide play-by-play and commentary for the game.
The Owls come to Provo after their most recent loss at Utah State halted their four-game win streak to bring their season record to 4-2. Rice returns seven starters to a team that went 8-8-4 last season and made it to the Conference USA tournament. Jessica Howard leads the offense on three goals and 21 shots.
