Four Cougars receive All-WCC honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Four members of the BYU women’s soccer team received All-WCC honors for the 2017 season, the West Coast Conference announced Tuesday.

Senior defender Taylor Isom and senior forward Madie Lyons Mathews were named to the All-WCC First Team. Freshman midfielder Mikayla Colohan and senior forward Nadia Gomes both received Honorable Mention Honors. Colohan was also named to the All-WCC Freshman Team.

In conference action, the Cougars went 4-4-1 and Isom, the former WCC Defensive Player of the Year, led the defensive line. At home, BYU only allowed five goals in conference play. She also helped the Cougars earn three shutouts in the WCC.

Mathews led the Cougar offense with nine goals and two assists for 20 total points this season. Seven of her nine goals came in league play. With her nine goals, she was tied for third in the conference for most goals scored this season.

Despite missing the majority of preseason due to an injury, Colohan came back in conference play, earning significant minutes. In league play, she recorded three goals and two assists. Against Gonzaga, Colohan scored two goals and assisted Mathews in the Cougars’ 6-3 victory.

Gomes, the 2015 WCC Player of the Year, scored one goal and tallied one assist in league play. She was second in the conference with 70 shots taken this season, including 36 in WCC action.
