Gymnastics Narrowly Defeated on Senior Night

PROVO, Utah – In their last home meet of the season, the BYU women’s gymnastic team was narrowly defeated by the Southern Utah Thunderbirds 194.800-194.250, Monday during Senior Night at the Smith Fieldhouse.

"Although we've dealt with a lot of injuries this season, we try our best with what we have," head coach Brad Cattermole. "We’ve been doing that all year long and we will keep fighting until the last meet."

In the first event of the night, Krysten Koval and Natalie Eyre-Pickard led the Cougars in the vault, both receiving scores of 9.800. Mickell Merrell was also a strong contender, contributing 9.750.

On the bars, KayCee Gassaway recorded a 9.875, her season best, and Eyre-Pickard tied her career best with the same score.  Sarah Yandow also scored a season best and tied her career best with a score of 9.800.

During the third rotation, Koval and Eyre-Pickard again tied for BYU’s top scores on the beam, with a score of 9.825.  Raquel Willman also contributed 9.750 and Jordan Hayden posted a career best 9.725.

The Cougars achieved their best team score of the night on the floor, with a team score of 48.875.  Merrell led the squad with a solid 9.825, her season high, and Hayden also contributed a career best 9.800.

BYU will participate in their last regular season meet on March 23 against Boise State at 7 p.m. MDT in Boise.
