BYU Gymnasts Edged by Arizona

TUCSON, Arizona – Despite significant improvements throughout all events, the BYU women’s gymnastics still fell short against the University of Arizona Wildcats, 194.525-196.275, in Tucson.

The night started off on the uneven bars for the Cougars. Sophomore Raquel Willman scored a team-high 9.800 with an impressive routine.

On the vault, senior and team captain Natalie Eyre-Pickard scored a 9.850, the second highest vault score of the night. Three other gymnasts scored above a 9.700 including Willman, fellow sophomore Jordan Schult and junior Sarah Yandow.

Senior Krysten Koval had a strong showing on the floor scoring a 9.825, which tied her season-high score. Seniors Jennifer Lezeu, Mickell Merrell and Willman all scored 9.750 to help the Cougars score a 48.776, their highest event score of the night.

The team finished the night on the beam. Koval continued her dominance as the reigning “beam queen” with a score of 9.850, the second-highest score of the event.

The Cougars will return home to face Utah State and Southern Utah, Saturday February 25th at the Smith Fieldhouse.
