Cougars and Broncos Face Off
PROVO -- The BYU gymnastics team is home again this weekend as they prepare for a meet against Boise State Saturday, Feb. 26th in the Marriott Center at 7 p.m.
The Cougars are coming off a loss to Southern Utah last Friday after suffering three falls on bars. They lost to SUU 194.475-194.750. BYU is now 7-3 and currently ranked 13th nationally.
Boise State is currently 34th in the rankings with an average of 191.29. The Broncos have a full weekend ahead of them. On Friday BSU will be at Utah State and then will head down to BYU the next day. This will not be the only time the Cougars and Broncos line up. They will face each other again next weekend at Boise State.
The Cougars continue to work hard this season despite injuries. Last weekend against SUU the Cougars had their best night on vault (49.325) and beam (49.150) scoring season highs. These high scores have led to a 9th national ranking for vault and 12th ranking for beam. BYU's floor and bars scores also remain in the top 20 with floor at 14 and bars at 20.
In the all-around category, team captain Jaime Mabray is ranked 20th. Marie-Helene Claveau leads the Cougars on vault with a No. 14 ranking with Mabray and Kirsten Pauga tied for 23rd.
Last season the Cougars and Broncos also competed twice with BYU taking both wins. The last time BSU won against BYU was in 2003 at their second meet in Boise, with BYU winning the first meet.
Saturday's meet will be broadcast on BYU TV at 7 p.m. The next meet for both teams will be next Friday, March 4th in Boise. The meet will be in the Pavilion at 7 p.m.
