Gymnasts to Participate in Rocky Mountain Open

The BYU gymnastics team will be on the road this weekend as they travel to Air Force to participate in the Rocky Mountain Open on Saturday night at 7 p.m.

After a solid performance in the season opener last Friday, defeating Iowa State in the Marriott Center, 194.275 to 191.475, the young Cougars are looking to get some valuable experience on the road in their first away meet of the season.

With only two seniors on this year's team, Coach Brad Cattermole understand that the Cougars have a long way to go before they are where they need to be at the end of the season.

All-American Kelly Parkinson is coming off a solid performance against the Cyclones. She scored a 39.325 on Friday night, currently the third highest all-around score in the country.

BYU's senior leader, Kim Little only participated in the bars last week because of a strained calf muscle.

"Kim is fine," said Cattermole. "If this was the post season, she would be competing in the all-around and be just fine. We are just taking it easy with her right now."

Other key contributers last week were Jeni Lopez, Brooke Craig, Angie Hickman, and newcomers Kari Dye, Brogan Jacobsen and Trisha Driggs.
