BYU hosts Boise State for first home meet of season

PROVO, Utah — BYU women’s gymnastics invites Boise State to the Marriott Center for the first home meet of the 2023 season on Friday evening. The meet will feature a special daddy/daughter date night theme with activities and special guest appearances from a few BYU gymnast dads. 

MEET NOTES

SERIES INFORMATION. This will be the 39th meeting between the BYU Cougars and the Boise State Broncos, including four Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Championships. In regular season meets, the pair is tied 13-13.

Last season, BYU won back-to-back regular season meets against Boise State, notching final scores of 196.700 and 196.450. In the 2022 MRGC Championship, the Broncos took home second place with a score of 196.550, while the Cougars ended the night in fourth with 196.375. 

THE BRONCOS. The Boise State Broncos last competed on Saturday, Jan. 14 for an afternoon meet against then Washington Huskies. The Broncos took home second place after notching a final team score of 195.050. Despite beginning the 2023 season 0-3, Boise’s Emily Lopez earned three MRGC accolades last week: vault (9.850), bars (9.950) and beam (9.900).

THE COUGARS. The BYU Cougars last competed in the Rio Tinto Best of Utah meet at the Maverik Center on Friday, Jan. 13. With a final team score of 195.175, the Cougars notched fourth place. Nine Cougars had career-high scores in the Best of Utah meet, including a 9.850 on bars for Anna Bramblett. Freshman Madison Raesly-Patton made her career debut on beam during the meet, tallying a 9.750.
